Gaara's Costume

Description

or rather, my costume for cosplaying gaara, but that'd have been too long a title ;)

so here something like an exact list of the full costume (for the gourd i made an extra submission here [link])

coat in dark red with sand colored lining. the collar closes with a push botton, the coat itself with a zipper. the button on the outer side of the collar is just for decoration. it's made from brass to represent the sign of the hidden village of sand. there's stitchery in three places, also sand colored, meaning to represent the movement of wind. on the cuff's there's two more small brass pieces for decoration. for the right hand the kanji reads "tsuna"(sand) on the left side it reads "kaze" (wind)

the vest is sandcolored, too and reinforced with a few more layers of corduroy sewn into it so it looks thicker and more sturdy. there's a carabiner at the vest's back for carrying the gourd (in the end i still had to use an additional belt though, because the thing was just too heavy for being kept up properly only by the vest °_° )

nothing much to say for the shoes.. made them from flipflops and dark cloth. there was a tutorial for this, to be found here ([link]), but i changed that slightly to fit better tighter onto my extremely narrow and flat feet (you can see a small hook at the heel)...

trousers i got for 2€ from the flea market
the leather straps close with velcro.
the net shirt was originally a man's t-shirt which i took the sleeves off and then changed to fit my size.

those are the basic things about this... don't look too closely at the seams, i have not sewn before and really learned it on this coat. my mum (~Fabric-ant) helped me a lot with this, mostly verbally, sharing her experience with me, but then she did the first version of the collar (which i still needed to change later on) as well as putting the sleeves and the zipper in. the rest i made on my own, but could have never done this without her. thanks so much!!!!!

so.. now i'm tired of writing and will add stuff that i think of later to some more pictures that i will still add of me wearing all that stuff ^^

Hey, cool cosplay! I've been looking around for one myself, got most of the componants except the jacket/coat! Did you buy this and stitch the extra bits on? (Which look awesom by the way!) Or did you make the jacket? Either way it looks awesom! Great job!
